With the weather so dreadful outside - it is hard to believe that summer is just around the corner!!! With summer just around the corner, it means that our summer swim season will be starting soon too! Once again, we have made arrangements for some coach supervised spring swimming warm ups at UMBC on Sunday late afternoons in April and May.
The details are as follows:
Dates: Sundays April 6, 13, 20, 27, May 4, and 18
Time: 4-5pm
Cost: $40.00 per swimmer
Who's eligible to participate: Any pool member ages 4-18 that can swim a lap
Attached is the registration form. Please complete and mail to Mark Gretz at the address listed on the bottom of the form.
We are working with UMBC on swim lessons for those kids who would like to join swim team, but may not be quite ready (can not swim a lap) If you are interested in these swim lessons please contact me at pmckissick1@comcast.net or 410-796-8142,
so we can make sure we have enough instructors available at the practice times, and have those kids registered thru UMBC.
Lessons will be 30 minutes at a cost of $60 for the 6 weeks. The registration for lessons will be done seperately because the lessons are being taught by UMBC.
Directions to UMBC: Route 1 to 195 West towards Catonsville, take the UMBC exit. At the bottom of the exit turn right. At the 1st stop sign turn left. Parking is available in the parking garage - underneath $.50 (quarters only) or on top is metered parking
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thank You,
Peggy McKissick

I have added about 15 pictures to the Team Pictures section. Web site space is limited so I reduced the size and quality of the pictures.
Next year, I expect to remove many old pictures from years past, and results from long ago, that are taking up our web space.
That'll make more room for more, newer, 2008 pictures from all of you shutter bugs. So next year, send me your best pictures!
This concludes my updates for the 2007 season. See you next year!

I wanted to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to all of the Watermont Swim Team Families! You are an amazing group of people. I feel very fortunte to have this opportunity to work with you all. Your kind, and "how can I help" attitudes have made this job so much easier, and very enjoyable. If I was ever grumpy with you, please know, it was NEVER you, but rather the overwhelming moment I was having at the time. As tired as I am right now, I know I will always Cherish this summer. And I Thank you all for that!

We have a lot to be proud of as we reflect on Saturday's meet. The final score was Watermont 197, Meadowbrook 291. We were the 1st team to keep Meadowbrook from scoring 300 points this summer. Many of our kids swam their hearts out and their best times show it. Mostly, great sportsmanship and team spirit was very evident, and everyone seemed to be having a great time! Thank you to all who helped at the meet this weekend, or in preparation of the meet or at the pasta dinner/pep rally! It is very rewarding to see so many of you contributing.
Activities for the week:
Monday July 16 from 4-9pm - it is GIVE MOM THE NIGHT OFF!! Take the family and friends to Fuddruckers. Bring a copy of the attached coupon. Present it to the cashier when you order, and a % of your purchases will be donated back to the swim team. The higher our total sales, the higher the percentage we receive. (Carry out orders are also welcome!)
New sign out sheets for the remainder of our meets are up on the swim team bulletin board. Please be sure I did write your requests for Forest Hill, Straehle, and Divisionals correctly. Or if you were unsure of your schedule and now need to sign out for one of these meets, SIGN OUTS FOR ALL 3 OF THESE MEETS are due NO LATER THAN 11am on THURSDAY JULY 19
Mike Newman will be working on the divisional entries this week. The most recent Straehle qualifiers will be posted at the pool by Tuesday morning.
Divisional T-shirts will be preordered and the orders will be due by Sunday July 22 NOON. There will be a limited number of shirts you could purchase at the meet, but in order to guarantee your size, it is recommended you preorder. Preordered T-shirts are $12.00. Please email me your size requests (youth Large, Adult S, M, L, XL). Cash or checks will need to be made out to Watermont Swim Team, and can be given to me at the Divisonal meet when you pick up your shirts.
Friday will be our final Pasta Dinner and pep rally - we start eating around 6:30 with the pep rally starting around 7:30. Bring a dish to share IN NON BREAKABLE CONTAINERS - NO GLASS or PYREX PLEASE. If you do bring a dish in a breakable container, the guards will ask you to transfer it to a different container or return it to your car.
Saturday is our final duel meet at home against the Forest Hill Frogs. So there will be lots of hopping going on at Watermont come Saturday morning - - - WHO WILL HOP and SWIM FASTEST? --------The BULLFROGS of course!
If you have any questions, let me know. Thanks Peggy

Over the last couple of weeks, I have forwarded try out information from some of the year around swim clubs in the Elkridge area. You have already received information about RAC (Retriever Aquatic Club-practice at UMBC) GBSA (Greater Baltimore Swim Assoc.-practice at CCBC) and at the end of this message is information on the Howard Co YMCA. All 3 of these clubs have excellent programs and depending on what you are looking for can fit into your crazy schedules. While there are many other excellent clubs in the area, these three are within 10 minutes from most of your homes. If you would like more information on these programs, feel free to ask myself or one of the coaches. We can put you in touch with families who swim at these clubs to get their feed back.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Peggy
Try-outs for the 2007/2008 Howard County YMCA swim team will be held on Sunday July 29.
Details can be found on the HCY website: www.hcyswim.info.

The sign out sheets have gone missing for the last 4 meets we have left -
Meadowbrook - this Saturday July 14,
Forest Hill - next Saturday July 21,
Straehle Wednesday July 25, and
Divisionals on Saturday July 28
We need EVERYONE to respond, back to me, to this message, as to your status for each of these meets ASAP, for example:
Meadowbrook - Ok for the meet, both kids no relays
Forest Hill - we will be there entire meet
Straehle - neither swimmer available
Divisionals - we can be there entire meet
Even if you think your child will not qualify for Straehle or divisionals, please indicate your availablity for these meets too.
Also, if you know of a neighbor or friend who is on vacation now, and will not be at any of these meets, please respond on their behalf.
Thank you for your attention to this

Hi to all -
The Team did great yesterday with over 150 best times, unfortunately we fell short against an excellent Padonia Team. The final score was Watermont 208 - Padonia 280. Thank you all who swam and showed such great sportmanship. Also, thank you to all that helped again yesterday. I really appreciate all of you stepping up to help at the meets, it is what helps them run so smoothly.
Coming up this week:
Tuesday July 10 - Is the Cystic Fibrosis swim-a-thon, we will be needing help from the moms and dads at the practices to help count laps. This is a very good cause - one of our current swimmers has CF and is doing extremely well, we do want CF to one day stand for "Cure Found".
Thursday July 12 - If you are unable to swim the Meadowbrook meet, or relays at the Meadowbrook meet, please sign out no later than Thursday by 11am
Friday July 13- Team picture day - individual pictures start at 8:30 with the team picture immediately following the individuals
Friday July 13 - Pasta Dinner/Pep Rally starting @ 6:30 - then set-up for Home meet against Meadowbrook
Saturday July 14 - Meadowbrook at Watermont - all swimmer report by 7:45 for roll call. Don't forget to sign up for jobs at this meet - there are still lots of jobs to choose from.
Monday July 16 - Fuddruckers Fundraiser - give Mom the night off, and help raise some money for the swim team. Bring this coupon, and present when you order your dinner. You need to turn in a coupon when you order for us to get credit. Dine anytime between 4-9pm. Carry-out can also get credit.
Peggy Gram (edited): Friday, July 6, 2007
PLEASE, if you must sign out for the meet or just relays - it MUST be done no later than Thursday by 11am. Also, please try to be available for relays - it is a LOT of fun for the kids and really brings a team together. While I know, many of you try to get out of town a little early for vacations, or other commitments, please try to make leaving early an exception.

GBSA, a USA swimming program that trains out of CCBC-Catonsville, will have
"tryouts" for the fall/winter/spring season in the 3rd and 4th week of
August. These tryouts will determine if each swimmer is ready for "winter
swim" and also what group they would be placed in. GBSA has always had open
enrollment and we have never had to use a waiting list or turn able swimmers
away due to volume of registrations. If interested please email Head Coach
Patrick Underwood at swimgbsa@verizon.net or simply look for updates and the
posting of these tryout dates/info at www.gbsaswim.org.
